The Third Line

Raha Rastifard medverkar med ljusskulpturenThe Third Line/Den 3:e linjen. Skulpturen är en permanent gestaltning och det senaste tillskottet i Borås stads rika offentliga konstutbud. Verket har inspirerats av den persiska 1100–1200-tals poeten och mystikern Shams Tabrizis filosofi om ”den tredje linjen”. Teorin beskrivs som ett vägledande ljus för svåra val, en försvarslinje mot distraktioner och en strimma av hopp att hålla fast vid när allt annat förefaller falla isär. Skulpturen är inspirerad av både europeisk och persisk arkitektonisk stil. Formen på skulpturen är influerad av nygotisk arkitektur, som harmonierar med den närliggande Gustav Adolfs kyrka. Skulpturens utstansade mönster härrör från persiska arkitektoniska blommor, daterade till 500-talet efter Kristus.

Verket inspireras ytterligare av komplexa system i naturen, med dess former och geometriska strukturer. Rastifard menar att skulpturen för henne representerar en resa genom historien, där hon har kombinerat en mängd fascinerande element till en skulptur. Den inkluderar både konst, arkitektur, filosofi och historia, men också vår tids tekniska signatur. Skulpturen som på dagen är en glänsande metallskulptur som återspeglar objekt i omgivningen bildar på kvällen, via det inifrån kommande ljuset, abstrakta projicerade mönster på den kringliggande miljön.

Raha Rastifard (f.1974 ) är en Iransk- tysk konstnär som bor och verkar i Stockholm, Sverige. Hon är utbildad vid Teheran University of Art, Iran, Freie Universität, Berlin, Tyskland och Kungl. Konsthögskolan, Stockholm, Sverige. Hon har tidigare medverkat i ett stort antal separat- och grupputställningar i Europa, Asien och Nordamerika, såsom Pergamonmuseet, Berlin, Tyskland; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Storbritannien; Tokyo Gallery + BTAP, Japan; Ana Tzarev Gallery, New York, USA;  Berg Gallery Stockholm, Sverige;  Liljevalchs Stockholm, Sverige, "ENTER ART FAIR", Berg Gallery, Köpenhamn, Danmark och Stockholm konst, Sverige. Rastifard är representerad i samlingar i Tyskland såsom Pergamon Museum, i Sverige SLL Stockholm och Stockholm konst. Hon har skapat flera offentliga gestaltningar i Sverige, som Norsborg Tunnelbanestation, Stockholm, Danderyds Sjukhus, Stockholm, Östergötlands Museum, Linköping och en tunnel under Tycho Hedéns väg, Uppsala.

Raha Rastifard is participating with the light sculpture The Third Line. This is a permanent work, and the latest addition to The City of Borås’s rich collection of public art. It was inspired by the Persian 12th-13th-century poet and mystic Shams Tabrizi’s philosophy on “the third line”. His theory is described as a guide for difficult decisions, a barrier against distraction and a flicker of hope to hold on to when everything seems to be falling apart. The sculpture was inspired by both European and Persian architecture. Its design shows Neo-Gothic influences, harmonising with the nearby Gustav Adolf church, and has a perforated pattern based on Persian floral architectural embellishments dated to the 6th century. There are also influences from the complex shapes and geometrical structures found in nature. Rastifard comments that the sculpture represents a voyage through history, where she has combined a myriad of fascinating elements. It embraces art, architecture, philosophy and history, but also vestiges of contemporary technologies. A shiny metal sculpture that reflects the environment by day, it is illuminated from within at night, projecting patterns on the immediate surroundings.

Raha Rastifard (b. 1974) is an Iranian-German artist who lives and works in Stockholm. She studied at the National University of Art in Tehran, Iran, and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. She has exhibited in various contexts, including the ENTER ART FAIR, Berg Gallery, Copenhagen, Futura Gallery, Berlin, the Pergamon Museum, Berlin, and Gallery Berg and the Swedish Printmakers' Association in Stockholm. Rastifard is represented in collections in Germany, such as the Pergamon Museum, Berlin; the German Parliament (Bundestag), and in Sweden at the SLL in Stockholm. She has designed public works of art for the Norsborg underground station in Stockholm, the Norrbyskolan school in Örebro, Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm and Östergötlands Museum in Linköping.
