Jury’s statement

Jens Olof Lasthein is a master of the panoramic format, often moving so close that the viewer is drawn into the photograph. At the center are the people, while at the edges of the images, landscapes or street corners reveal new scenes. Everyday life is an ongoing drama — portrayed with curiosity, courage, and a distinctive eye.

Jens Olof Lasthein was born in 1964, grew up in Denmark, and lives in Stockholm. The prize was established by the Tore G Wärenstam Foundation in Borås and is awarded in collaboration with the Lars Tunbjörk Foundation to a photographer who works in the spirit of Lars Tunbjörk.
