Petra Bauer’s new work Women in Movement (2026) for the Borås Art Biennial 2026 grows out of her long-term artistic research into women’s political organising. Her work is presented as an installation at the Textile Museum of Sweden and as a series of posters around the city.

Bauer’s point of departure is posters and photographs from the early socialist women’s movement in Sweden, which she now brings into conversation with material from the 1970s, including a poster calling for solidarity with workers affected by the closure of one of the Algots textile factories. She includes archival photographsfrom inside the textile factories, highlighting the relation between women’s collective struggle and labour. Bauer has also added contemporary photographs from migrant women’s networks active in Sweden today, emphasizing ongoing solidarity across different periods and places.

In the city centre, Bauer’s work can be encountered as a series of historical posters that are posted regularly throughout the summer on public notice boards. They draw attention not only to themselves, but to the infrastructures for collective communication, which are becoming increasingly rare in urban space due to digitalisation and commercialisation.
